[Apr. 29th, 2005|01:59 am] |
in physics class today and this week, i basically learned the basic concepts behind a nuclear bomb/reactor. pretty interesting actually... and quite simple. no wonder countries are so paranoid of each other making nuclear weapons... physics 100 has been a fun general ed class to take. kind of challenging but i've learned a lotttt of stuff. and best of all, no calculus, just conceptual physics! and i even know what E=mc2 is used for mostly now.. haha. i'm sure theres a million things i don't know but i like the fact that i have a basic knowledge now so i can know what's going around most of the time.
hrm... theres a big pile of dishes in our sink :/ oh well... they're starting to smell now i think.
i had a really weird dream yesterday. so many random people from my life were in there. and shawn had a huge house and his room was underground and had a wall that saw into the pool, like an acquarium. but there was this girl that was super pissed at shawn so she threw all of the shoes in his room (like 100) onto the ground. and i laughed.
and this other part, i had to race from nevada to edwards air force base (i dont even remember where that is) with a full car.. and the girl who threw the shoes on the ground in the trunk (cuz she was hiding from the security troops).
weird dreams, eh?
hard to believe another year is over. |

| wow, i'm updating? |
[Apr. 17th, 2005|11:11 pm] |
on the left is the Honda CR-V, a popular mid-sized sports activity vehicle in the US... on the right is the Shuanghuan S-RV, available in China. look similar?
Apparently now in China, a lot of manufacturers are just copying other peoples designs and putting crap motors and bad interiors on the inside... selling it for a lot less than the original car. you can read the whole article here... pretty bad!
I guess china is just notoriously bad for piracy because of the low government intervention... that, and the fact that chinese people are so damned cheap. Not that that's a bad thing in all aspects, but i guess sometimes it does get a bit annoying... i remember i tried to buy some pirated stuff in taiwan but ended up getting ripped off by some stupid teenagers who sold me like some random movie instead of the game i wanted. (i was with my parents, too!) but it's okay, it was just like... 5 bucks. still though.. i can't believe that i believed that they could get my any game off their list in like a few minutes ._.
one of the first mp3s i ever had was from the first savage garden CD, because i borrowed someones and ripped it. it was crazy, how all that music could fit in like 70-80mb... really such a crazy advancement. and then somehow mp3 downloads became available... back then, they were all still available on websites and all over the place... i remember i downloaded "natalie imbruglia - torn" and i listened to that a lot. lol. then came the advent of napster, and that just changed everything.
of course at the same time, the beginning of broadband internet sped everything up... i remember the first day of coming home and using DSL... seriously, one of hte best things thats ever happened. haha ig ot dsl pretty early so people thought it was like crazy fast... now it's not even that fast :P surprisingly the price hasnt really changed that much. hopeuflly in the near future they'll have optic fiber to our neighborhood and we can update to that, which is like soo many more times faster...
technology is crazy. |

| crazy dreams |
[Apr. 17th, 2005|12:41 pm] |
whoaa i had the craziest dream yesterday. i was on some tactical ops mission and we were undercover on a ship... lol it was like me, colin, zee... i forgot who else was there. the rest of the tree guys? ahaha. anyway we were on the ship and some lady was giving us info... and then we had to escape, so we had to go to this one part of the ship and go out this door and onto a safety boat. but then some soldiers saw us, so they activated the ship lockdown... so all the windows and doors couldnt open. so then we tried throwing rocks at these windows... but it only cracked... so then i took a towel and wrapped it around my hand and hit the window.. and wow, it broke! but i lookd otuside and there was no escape. so then we had to do another window... and then we jumped out and had to fall like 20 ft... and got onto the boat... and then we cut the ropes and we were free!
that's all. |

| | Jay Chou - All of them. | ] | Hey everyone, I know i haven't posted in a long time. Sorry! I guess my life has just been kinda flying by... every day is pretty much the same. Do some work, have to cook dinner, eat food... play CS... talk online... .... same old same old. Same things every week too. Seems like i'm falling into a long long pattern of doing the same thing every day...
Kinda just waiting around for summer. Bummer that i didn't get this HP internship i wanted, that was in Internet Marketing.. like i'd fit in really well cuz it's my interest and it has to do with my major as well... AND my aunt said that HP always pays more than 10 per hour... but alas, not all works out as planned. I think i might be working at Merrill Lynch this summer (investment stuff), but it's going to be unpaid which really unmotivates me. Although i guess it'd look good on my resume, and i'd get a lot out of it (doing some database stuff?) but i want to earn money at the same time. So that kinda sucks.
Recently i've been looking up more Jay Chou lyrics... they're so deep, it's hard to belive. most of the time i have no idea what he's singing cuz in a lot of songs he doesn't use vernacular.. well i guess it's kinda vernacular but i just dont undrestand it cuz i'm bad at chinese :P but if you look at the lyrics... they're really nice and well written. just makes me respect him more as an artist... pretty talented i think. he's also going to be starring in the initial D live action movie (initial D is a racing anime in case you don't know) which is going to be coming out later this year... but it's going to be in cantonese i thikn with a possible mandarin dub. oh well :P i'll probably end up seeing it anyway....
speaking of asian movies, i saw "kung fu hustle" in taiwan during winter break, and i thought it was okay, but now i learn it's coming out for release in the US... i think it's totally going to flop. so much of it is like asian humor so i don't see how americans will get it... i'm not being racist or anything but a lot of it is just going to make people think asians are weird. shaolin soccer (by the same director/main character, stephen chow) was a lot better in my opinion... yup.
speaking of movies, i saw sin city two weeks ago.. i loved it! i have no idea what the original comic was about but i think it followed the story pretty well. it was pretty greusome but i still liked it. ... kill bill levels of gore? not really i guess since it was mostly in black in white. but i will never look at elijah wood the same way again. i like how there are multiple storylines... but i dont want to give away the movie for people that havent sen it yet. if you havent, and you dont mind blood too much, go see it! guys for sure, you'll like it. or as jesse says "it was okay" so it's still worth your money.
taiwan also reminds me of antoher thing, how they're building a maglev train (at least i think it's maglev, or maybe just really fast) from taipei (in the north) to the 2nd largest city , kaoshung (in the south)... the normal drive takes about 6 hours, 8 hours by train... but they're makign the trip in 90 minutes! leet. the trains will be travelling up to 300-350km/h... pretty fast eh. i can't wait to go ride on it. supposed cost is 13-16 billion US dollars Oo... i really liked taiwan when iw ent back for winter break, so i want to go again. i love the metro in taipei.. it is SO nice and advanced. during rush hour there is a train every 2 minutes and that is.. amazing! and i love using the IC card passes so you dont have to put in a card (like BART at home) to get onto the trains. it's nice and clean and it goes like everywehre in the city. what's not to like? LA could really learn a lot from them, but i guess it is harder to implement in a city like LA (it's bigger).
anyway, if you read my whole post, congrats to you. thanks for being a cool reader. peace out yo.
oh, i miss tree :(
EDIT: i just realized i posted about taiwan AGAIN (and the whole lightrail crap) even though i did last post. i guess it really has been a long time since i last posted. i repeat myself a lot anyway. tha'ts my whole social life, repeating things again and again :P ) |

| taiwan update |
[Dec. 29th, 2004|07:47 am] |
so i guess since i have no internet here, i might as well post. i'm at the southern part of taiwan, took the train today.. it took forever... i realized that most of taiwan is still pretty ghetto.. although it is pretty tech-saavy as when we stopped i just whipped out my laptop and i could always find some wireless point nearby to get on, although there isnt much point to that. what's really weird is that i was thinking... they really need a bullet train from north to south, so it doenst take so long.. and later in the trip i found out that they ARE building one, it's supposed to be done next year! it goes from taipei to taichung to tainan to kaoshung. total time from like top to bottom would only be like 1.5 hours, compared to the 6 hour trip i had to take today (although it was more like 5 from taipei to kaoshung). how cool!
taiwan is really moving forward in terms like that, but i think the whole "independence" thing is geting a little out of hand. almost all official matter is in taiwanese now, and i dont understand taht but that's not really a problem. people even want to move the capital from taipei (which is a traditionally kuomingtang city, with KMT established buildlings) to kaoshung, the 2nd largest city in taiwan. that's a bit drastic just for a little more independence. taiwan isnt even in the WTO, not to mention the UN, not to mention any sort of asian trade federation (which china is in with a buncha other countries now). without china, taiwan is going to slowly die, regardless if they want to or not. i'm not a pro re-unification person or aynthing, but thats just how i see the facts.
taiwan is nice. i miss being here, but then i remember why i dont like it here too. i'll make a list!
pros of taiwan/taipei: -cool citylike atmosphere (night life-esp food, and cool buildlings like taipei 101) -everything is pretty cheap relatively (i can get a drink for like... 25cents.. food is cheap too!) -good food!!! eveyrthing is good. -change of atmosphere- everyone speaks chinese? -the malls are very cool, service is nice -attention to detail: the wedding i went to yesterday was awesome, more on that later -the subway is awesome... you can get eveyrwhere so fast, its just like hte japanese one .. .and the system works so well, and so many people ride, and they're smart to use advertising revenue. -grandma's apartment.condo is pretty nice.
dislikes/petpeeves of taiwan: -driving is crazy, nobody cares about the lines -i dont undrestand taiwanese or haka -they wear weird swim suits -the showers are always either just part of the bathroom room (no divider, no basin) or they just build a small wall ... the floor is the same as the toilet area, its hard to explain i dunno why they do htat -the light switch for the bathroom is alwyas on the OUTSIDE. dont ask me why, then people like my brother will turn off the light when i'm inside -weird food like abalone is always served as a delicacy -the sky is never clear... always cloudy or smoggy or something
more to come later! |

[Nov. 21st, 2004|01:35 am] |
so today shawn and i were waiting at the metro station downtown to get to union station to get to billy graham concert... and we were waiting at the upper platform. this kid and his mom came... his mom went up the stairs toward us and the kid decided to run up the "down" escalator. this kid wasn't the most fit, let's just say... and then when he was about halfway he was having a hard time getting up.. his mom kept yelling at him to hurry up (in spanish) because they had to transfer. so he was trying os hard.. huffing and puffing trying to get up the escalator.. he couldnt make it... i had to run away because i was going to crack up so bad and we were still next to his mom.
so i went away for like 30 seconds... and when i came back, he was STILL Trying!! he was on his hands... i felt so bad but it was just such a funny picture.. his mom was still telling him to hurry up... he was at the point of the escalator where it gets flat again (at the top), but he just couldnt make it!! and then finally after like 3 minutes he ended up having to give up. and then he had to get up the stairs, and he was like exhausted... man.. .i feel so bad for laughing but it was just so funny :/
in other news, i had some good thai food today.. the restaurant we went to in pasadena had really cool design and i think i'll probably go there again sometime. yups!
yay i can't wait for thanksgiving. |

| | sum 41 - slipping away | ] | so i havent updated in a long time...
i had a weird dream yesterday. i was race or something, but it was like with chinese school and there were problems i had to answer along the way or something. so i was running with my friend, we were both together... it went up in the hills and stuff and with dirt roads and everything. we both finished.. he finished ahead of me so he got 1st.. but then when i finished i was like "yes i'll get 2nd!" but somehow... they gave me 8th place... i got mad and my mom got annyoed and asked why. they said i messed up some problems or something. so i got so annoyed that i just ran the whole race again.
haha weird dream.
i can't believe its thanksgiving again... pretty crazy as time has passed so fast this semester. seems way faster than last year. hums... nothing much in my life has changed since summer though. i suppose thats both good and bad. i've been trying to find a job but without success... i dunno what i'm gonna do next semester. only 1 hr of class on tues/thurs... hrm. i need a job.
today i cooked stuff for thanksgiving... made green bean casserole and mashed potatoes (with christine's help) but they both turned out pretty good. following recipies is pretty easy! haha. but just cooking takes a long time. i think this summer i'll be cooking a lot.
i'm gonna be spending one week of winter break in taiwan... i havent been there in ages. but i kinda do wanan go... seems fun :) but i dont get to be at home for a whole week which kinda sucks for obvious reasons. i wanna see the taipei 101 though, while it still is the tallest building in the world.
anyway.. i'll write more soon. byes! |

| i dunno what to say. |
[Oct. 10th, 2004|04:04 am] |
hi everyone.
i dunno if you know this, but last week i was rear-ended on the way to fall conference with intervarsity. i dunno, i guess i just didn't feel like telling people because it wasn't that big of a deal and yeha... just a bumper. and the guy was nice and said his insurance will pay for it and everything.
well, today i was involved in a major accident. i had just dropped kev off at the apartment and we were headed to kabuki to eat/celebrate our victory over the bears, so we had to go the other way... i think... so anyway, i look back, don't see any cars, so i try to make an u-turn in a street that i thought was empty. apparently, it wasn't empty, or i didn't see a car... so, a toyota SUV ran into my rear left side, pushing us a couple feet, and my side impact airbags opened.
i seriously didn't know what to do for about 30 seconds, because i thought i was dreaming... i seriously had no clue what to do until i realized i still had other people in the car... but luckily nobody was injured. i think it is a good thing those airbags were there or one of my friend's heads would of run right into the side window.
i don't really know what it is with me and cars, but there was anotehr incident in summer, whcih i'm not really suppsoed to talk about for certain reasons.
i don't really know what to think now, and i'm pretty sure the repairs will near 10,000, so that's going to insurance, and i'm pretty sure that guys repairs will go to my insurance too. my rate is going to skyrocket.
i've decided that as a son, i'm using way too much of my parents money with tuition and now i just made it more. i'm going to get a job, and try to make enough to pay for my apartment rent and my car insurance.
anyway, i just had to tell the world. it's a good thing side impact airbags work, and i don't know why i'm such a retarded driver. i guess i'm not really worthy of being called a safe driver anymore. but oh well, i guess things happen...
there goes my ... streak of good times.
i'm also kind of confused about why this happened, and i just wnat to ask what i did to deserve it... but religion is always confusing.
thanks for reading. and thanks to my friends who have been so supportive already... thank god that nobody was hurt... thanks to jesse for buying me dinner.
man... i have to write a paper, too. |

i just f*cking missed my lab because i couldnt' find any parking. i officially hate communting. be as it is, this is one of the few labs that i acutally have to do in class becasue there is equiptment- last week i just needed excel.
this sucks. |
|
|
| well, i haven't updated for a few months |
[Sep. 7th, 2004|09:49 am] |
so i guess i will now. my 9:30am class got cancelled so here i am sitting in the library wasting my time and i'm kind of annyoed that i had to wake up early and come to school and then find out i didn't need to be here till 11. but oh well! i've gotten into a habit of not sleeping too late so it's actually not that bad anymore when i have to wake up early.
school has been going pretty well, i'm taking 19 units which is a bit much but i think i'm doing okay. one of my classes is "web hacking" which has turned out to be a lot cooler than my html class last semester (these classes are for my web technologies minor). anyway, we've been learning a lot of useful crap and eventually we'll get to start hacking each other on teams as one of our projects. i also just wrote a paper about spyware a few days ago.
other classes aren't so great, they're pretty much pretty boring. but that's the way clases are and at least my professors don't suck like last year.
the apartment has been going pretty well. we had some kinks in the beginning such as dishes and food but things are slowly getting worked out... we never were that bad anyway. i've heard some bad horror stories from other people living in apartments, and that makes me glad that my apartment mates are all pretty cool guys. also thanks to sam for getting us such a kickass tv/sound system and thanks to everyone else for what they brought too. we barely had any trouble getting settled in, and now we actually started cooking.
we made this really good salmon dinner the other night, and i was actually pretty impressed with the quality of the food and that made me encouraged to try and make other things. so far i've made... some random chicken dish, fried rice, omelette/tortilla things, and a buncha other stuff i kinda forgot. i think i'll start looking up more recipies online too.
anyway i miss teresa a lot... it's hard being here without her cuz um i spent a lot of time with her over summer. but at least i get to see her soon... hopefully :p
anyhow, you guys should all send me an IM cuz nobody IMs me! hahaha! i've been also watching a lot of west wing. such a good show. i'm done with half the first season now.... 45 minutes each episode, blah!

| my life in the last few weeks: |
[Jun. 28th, 2004|12:21 pm] |
hours worked thus far: 54 hours hourly wage: $7 (before tax, minimum wage) last weeks paycheck: $181.15 (for my first week) days off: 1 free tickets to Great America: 2 (company picnic) invoices mailed: ~2500 files filed: ~500 probably satisfaction: decent money spent this weekend at SF, berkeley, great america: ~$100
knowing that it's my own money: priceless
haha sorry i couldnt resist. life has been pretty uneventful now that i work.. now DA is starting so i pretty much have a day from 7:00-5:00. kinda sucks, but that's kinda how real life is.
so this weekend: i had a sleepover at my house which kinda turned out to just be teresa sleeping over, but oh well. haha. then hostel in SF, that was pretty cool, and i really liked the bay cruise we took... the golden gate bridge sure is beautiful. thanks emile again for planning that. pics up soon on teresa's picture site here soon probably. but yeah that was cool.
then took everyone home to my house, and went to GA with Teresa for Advantech (where i work) Company picnic.. though we were way too late since we stopped to take a nap... hahah. had a free drink thing too so that was nice. went on roller coasters (i'm kinda freaked by them) but now that i thikna bout it, roller coasters are pretty fun. i guess i'm not that scared of htem anymore now that i've been on a lot more. then went BACK to berkeley where we watched "amelie" with teresa's friend christina, that was actually a lot better of a movie than i first thought.. i remember it winning a lot of awards but i never saw it. it's pretty nice for a foreign film.
the next day was SF (again).. we were gonna go to exploratorium but we were too slow so we went to golden gate park to ride those surrey (bike things).. that look like cars? i'm sure you know what i'm tlakinga bout. how tiring.
oh yeah, forgot to mention that some ASS..*cker.. RANOVER MY CAR... literlaly... (the camry).. at berkeley overnight. i was putting stuff in the car when i saw a footprint on my trunk, i'm like wtf... and then i saw them all over the top of the car and onto the hood. the best part? the fucker dented my roof and back of the hood. if i were there, i would of kicked his fucking ass. you don't understand how pissed i was.
anyway, end of profanity. i really should be doing work now, suppsoedly i'm getitng my car back thursday or fridya. i hope so. those upnks have dlayed like three times..
i'm happy :)

| hey guys |
[Jun. 21st, 2004|12:18 pm] |
hi everyone, i'm connected to the internet using my cell phone as a modem and my laptop. isn't that cool? it's free, too. good ol' tmobile. too bad my reception is sucking in san jose (it's fine in LA most of the time). anyway...
i got a job, for those that are still out of the loop. wait, i forgot if i wrote about this in my last entry. too bad i found out later that it only pays minimum wage, but it's a good experience.
went to SF/berk this weekend with tree :) that was fun. we ended up not doing any of the things that we planned but it was still a good time just hanging around. watched a movie at mel's house yesterday... uhm.. pleasntville. was an interesting mvoie... i like original ideas and that was pretty original.
my mom's been getting on my case for going home late again.. it's really annoying, becuase i see her reasons but she shoud at least give me a bit of freedom now that i'm an adult... i mean.. i spent the whole school year out at USC and it should just be the same at home. i know it's more likely dangerous out at night and whatever i dont really care. i shoul have a right to my own life by now.
oh well!
today i offically mailed my 500th invoice (i finished off the first big box of envelopes.. steadly going to the 1000th. .. ahaha. i got a free mug!! yay.
i'm usually pretty bored so you should send me an email at admin.aasc@advantech.com . don't forget hte period betwen admin and aasc. anyway... i don't have much to write about right now. leave a comment and give me a suggstion on what to write about. hey, the good thihn about using thsis laptop is that i'm untracable ont he company network.. hehehe. good.
okay guys... bye. i suck at bball now, i'm so discouraged to play.. and i havent had time to go to the gym at all... really tired.. supposed to get my car back friday.. dunno if that's gonna happen.. ihope it does. |
